These are really nice cars. Lionel never made the 1707 cattle or stick car in this size. The last car in your series of photos is a put together using a gondola body and a roof from a caboose. Never came that way. You can locate an Ives small steamer to go with the cars. Lionel also labeled a small steamer to go with these or the Lionel cars.

I think he was just sharing his admiration for the Ives/Lionel transition rolling stock.
Maybe some pictures of what he’s talking about might help.
On one of these threads a while ago I think Papa Steve matched up a 1717 with a roof to make a covered hopper. I don't have the time at the moment to find it but it is back there somewhere.
