Hello OGR,

I have a Lionel N&W J-class #603 - #1931350 - has the Dog House on the tender. I cannot turn off the light in the Dog House. Is there a particular trick to this, or is this a known problem? Earlier Dog Houses were on all the time I understand.

I assume this light is an LED, so not too worried, but I would like to be able to have it on and off at times. The instruction manual on page 15 says you can invoke Aux-2 to get the icons to turn on-off that are shown on page 17.

The page 15 instruction says you must program the engine in Legacy in the Cab2 remote. I just ran the engine over sensor track to get it "programmed" .... do I have to literally fool around with the Cab2 remote interface?

Anyone have any experiences or suggestions?

BTW - my #603 engine is not under warranty so I have not even tried to ask Lionel. Hope someone has seen or dealt with this. Another day, another problem to solve...

-Ken

Ken,

Does everything else work, such as sound, rear coupler, back-up light (if equipped), rear marker lights (on-off operation), etc.?

Have you opened the tender to check the wiring?

Were you able to get to the lighting control screen using the aux2 button?  For those not familiar with this, you press and hold down the aux2 button on the Cab2 remote until the lighting control screen appears on the numeric pad. This is what John makes reference to.

The first Dog House light that I was able to control was on the VL Class A.  That was only released this year.   Maybe @Dave Olson can confirm if it's a feature.

The owners manual for Ken's loco describes the feature and how to access the icons on the Legacy remote.

I have the early legacy M1b, it was "supposed" to have doghouse light operation but it did not work .

There was an oversight in the wiring, and an email to Mike R . Got the feature fixed free of charge. Even though the engine was a few years past warranty. I had purchased it nos.

I don't  exactly recall what the paperwork said. I think either a resistor or diode? Was added.

Again

I would double check before tearing into it.  I have the Texas class with the same issue from early 2010s with the same issue even though it was advertised.  I guess I need to email Mr. Reagan and see what the fix is.

Thank you all for your replies! I have asked Dave Olson to send me the wiring change needed.

DaveGG - to reply to your questions:

1. Everything else does seem to work. The Aux-2 light controls generally work but the sequence of commands seems a little odd - one example with turning off Mars light is "odd" but the light turns off,

2. I have not yet opened up the tender, primarily because I am not the strongest of electrical wiring.

types.

3. Yes, you press and hold the Aux-2 button on the Cab-II until the screen opens up and shows the menu items exactly as pictured in the #603 user manual.

Hello MartyE and Dabve Olson,

I await a reply Lionel Support's reply about whether the Dog House "light on/off" switch capability was indeed included in the release of the locomotive.

Looking at announced ads on the loco including the relevant year catalog it does not address Dog House. On the other hand the distributed user manual (see attached) on pages 15 (bottom of page) and 17 (whole page, right side) the inference is clear that the logo owners could turn off/on the Dog House light.

Mine is on and no use of the commands in the user guide work.

DAVE - while I sent you an email to your Lionel address, perhaps it would be better if you do provide a wiring solution guide for this Dog House problem that you send it into OGR via MartyE, who then can determine if/when OGR shares it with anyone else including me (I am to new).

- Thanks, Ken
