Hi everyone, I seem to have a dilemma. I have a SCR2 for the Lionel LCS system in order to utilize third-party software. I utilize a USB to serial adapter in order to run my trains from my Laptop with the Windows 7 platform does anyone have any issues when using this concept or do most utilize the WiFi path?

Wifi
It also depends on what software you are using--if you are purchasing an LCS WiFi, make sure your computer program knows how to connect to it.
Rudy, I do not plan to go WiFi I use the USB to serial cable and have issue.
The lcs wifi is what gets you access to the base's "directory" of engines and other items... Rudy can tell me I'm wrong though. There's also a heart beat message. I believe it is generated by the wifi ... not sure of that though -- that is where it comes from... Also I've a SER2 also but never quite gotten around to hooking it up and making use of it.
Drew, I guess I do not understand the nature of your dilemma. Help me understand the problem you are trying to solve and I'll try and point you in the right direction.
I use eTrain Command Console, and I utilize a USB to serial adapter in order to run my trains from my Laptop. when I select one of the official railroad speed buttons, then as the locomotive starts in motion I quill the horn with the slider the program shuts down. This happens on two separate laptops. Thanks for you input Rudy.
That would be a question for the developer of eTrain Command Console, I'm afraid I can't answer it.
Thanks, I have been working with them.
