I have the same thing happening with a Legacy F7. There was a derailment which resulted in a trip of the ZW-L transformer when this happened.
So it is obviously something in the PCB's (printed circuit boards). The F7s have two, and I anticipate that one or both PCBs need replacing.
A Lionel Authorized Service Center had them for several months and could not ID the issue. They seemed competent (the guy is a graduate electrical engineer) and I have confidence he tried his best and would have found the problem, but he didn't.
I will take them to another service center. The F7 set (1 powered, 1 unpowered) are my favorite engines. With near $1000 invested in them, I think (depending on the total cost), I would pay to fix them. Ugh.
thanks Mike yeah worth fixing ,this engine is not the top of the line but I like it so I will try to get it fixed too.
The bad news is, the top suspect is the DCDS-J MTR DRIVR BRD(S05 CODE) /OBSOLETE, Lionel declared all of those parts obsolete and removed them from the parts site. It could be the tach sensor or the wiring between it and the DCDS as well.
Your best bet is find someone that can possibly repair the board, many times this is one or more of the driver FET's.
ok thanks John not good but at least I have an idea thank you. I will contact someone.
