I purchased the first issue N&W Y6b. It was by far the best sounding hooter whistle that Lionel has made. I ended up selling it because my Y6b, J, Y3, & A couldn't sinc and run together in a MU train. Then Legacy came along and I was hopeful that finally my N&W collection of steamers would finally come together.
The first engine out was the Mallet and after a long wait, I bought one because it had whistle smoke and it was reasonably priced. My hesitation to buy is the SOUND!!!!! The generic sound that Lionel has reverted BACK to. That same generic steam chip is in all of the big steamers. The second issue of the Y3s have generic sounds. What happened to the awesome hooters that the N&W and Pennsy Y3s had in the first issue? Lionel why are you ruining these great steamers by putting generic sounds in them?
So here I am looking at the possibility of buying another Y6b with Legacy and whistle smoke. My fear is what it's going to sound like. i won't order the engine unless I listen to the sounds. With today's technology Lionel needs to put a sound clip online of all of there engines. It can be a link in the features part of their website. Since this is a BTO engine it's a good possibility that I will pass because I can't spend my hard earned dollars on an unknown?
