Bought this engine around Christmas and just put it on a test track today - programmed it into my Cab 2 - all seemed ok - but when i try to increase the speed it does not move quickly - the horn/bell/couplers/crew sounds all work but it does not move quicker when i turn the dial - i checked to be sure there was no odd settings - the engine starts up with all the correct sounds - just seems to run very slowly - i tried "high ball" setting - no change - there is 19V to the track, track is clean - can anyone offer  suggestion or should i send back to Lionel for warranty repair.  thanks

That it runs slow is a GOOD thing!  There are plenty of too-fast running models of switching locos already on the market.  In real life these locos couldn't exceed 45 mph, and I bet many of them never even went that fast.

That being said, a couple of things to know:

(1) Make sure the brake slider is not applied on your Legacy Cab-2, and set the momentum to a reasonable level.

(2) Others here on the Forum have reported that their switchers came from the factory without lubrication.  You might need to go through the mechanicals (gearboxes, drive shafts, etc.) to make sure nothing is binding, and there's lube on the gears.   Do a search, there are a couple of good threads walking you through the disassembly process.  Not brain surgery, but know that taking it apart may void your warranty.

(3) Be aware that under Legacy / Odyssey 2 speed control, if a loco is designated a "switcher," the speed steps are cut in HALF for additional precision when switching.  So speed step "20" on your switcher would be equivalent to speed step "10" on a road loco.   I didn't think that Lionel still shipped locos with the orange identity modules.  If you don't want or need this added precision, you can delete it from your Cab-2 and re-add it manually as a road engine.  Then it will run faster for any given speed step and more like your other locos.

If it's still too slow for you, I'll bet you could find someone else that would love to have it, at a reasonable price ;-)

Hi - thanks

i checked the brake slider it was in the middle - i moved it toward the "-" and no change - the loco is set to diesel in the cab2 - it did seem to be a bit dry but there was signs of lubrications- i added some and checked to see if there was any blockage that i could see.  will try setting the momentum - thanks ps email me with an offer and maybe i will part with it
