So we got a LionChief Hudson from Lionel yesterday and I took it out to see how it works. I was very impressed by how easy it was to use. The sounds are pretty good too. For a mid-priced locomotive I think that will be seeing more of these on store shelves as starter or add-on locomotives for those just starting out in the hobby.

Would 4 - or even 3 - chuffs kill them? The sound is great, the loco is handsome,

The chuffing and other operational noise are the only sounds that don't require the operator to press a button (whistle, bell, etc.). So if you set the chuffing switch to off, that silences all the locomotive sounds except whistle and bell.
Landsteiner is correct. Only the chuffing and steam sounds can sounds can be shut off completely.
Good review thanks for posting. The price is still a little high for a really nice starter loco. Making the remote control engines like this one may help to get younger people into our hobby!
