Greeting O Gauge pros,
As you can see from my post-count I am new here and rather new to O-Gauge.

I recently purchased two new Lionel Legacy diesel engines and noticed they both were defective out of the box, (to keep this short I'll save the complaints and list of defects for a future post). Note that I do not consider the defects a problem since I enjoy the challenge, however I do have a few questions about repair parts and diagram availability. . .

1.) Where/how do I get parts and diagrams for newer (2016-2021) Lionel Legacy locomotives?
Specifically: I need two electro couplers for my Alco S4 Northern Pacific switcher, Lionel #2033130 (2019 Vol-2 catalog).

2.) This is completely unrelated but here goes... Is it possible to buy a kit to convert my 1990's vintage MTH Premier diesels to run in Lionel CAB-1/CAB-2 territory?

Notes:
a.) I'm not thin-skinned so feel free to hammer away on things like; "Use the search function rookie" and "Dont mix topics!", etc... No problem.
b.) I could not find a "Rookie" or "New Members Introductions" section on this forum so please direct me (educate me) as I learn the ropes here at OGR Forums.
c.) Yes, I'll get a pic of myself in my avatar shortly.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.
Regards,
-Jake-

This site has parts to convert engines to TMCC. You would be looking for either a DC Commander (no cruise control) or a Cruise Commander with cruise plus a Railsounds card.

The couplers in your PS1 engines are compatible with Electric Railroad boards. You can even buy couplers here though the choices may not be the same as your modern Lionel as far as length and height.

Pete

The coil coupler part number for that chassis family is 6208530550.

I would take a close look at the coupler wiring.  I have repaired 2 brand new ones in the last month with broken wires.  A little solder and shrink tube and they are good as new.

As far as MTH conversions go, you can easily upgrade them to TMCC with 3rd rail/ERR:  https://allaboardtrains1.com/elraco.html

Thank you guys for the input! Now I have something to research.

I have a beautiful MTH Premier GE-Genesis that I've owned since new and I would love to be able to run it on my Lionel CAB-1/CAB-2 controlled layout (without the need for a PowerMaster). I'll report back here with a follow-up as I move forward on the MTH to TMCC conversion. (I'll make a separate thread for clarity).

The prime issue here is a source of parts for the new Lionel Legacy locos. They seem to have a habit of arriving at my door with plenty of defects.

For instance. . .
The GP35 Allegheny #305, (Lionel #1933331) I purchased last month ran with a frightening grinding sound soon as I started it up. I shut it down and pulled the cover off the loco and found a plastic window jammed next to the top of the motor.
I assumed a window fell out of my loco during shipment but nope! It was an extra window that was inside my new engine. It apparently fell in during production.
Additionally, the front electro coupler would buzz but not open. Both issues have been fixed.

On the new Alco S4 Northern Pacific switcher I just bought (Lionel #2033130) both couplers are defective and the gear-box is frighteningly loud. I dont know how to get the case (the body) off the frame on this little switcher so it's turning into an adventure right from the start!
Closing thought. . .
This Lionel Legacy stuff puts new meaning into the word "hobby"

Thanks,
-Jake-

Lionelsupport.com should be your got to for parts on new equipment. When it comes to brand new equipment there’s a fine line between what you can easily go in and fix vs what just simply needs to be sent in. Sometimes it takes a year or two for all parts of a locomotive to be listed in that case you have to call Lionel for parts. Sometimes if it’s something simple and in warranty they’ll ship the part out free of charge. I love my Lionel products but sometimes I’m left to wonder about Lionel. No need to get into that, hope this helps! Welcome to O scale and to the forum!
