None of the camera cars have shipped. It is possible that there are other cameras on the market that could work with this APP. It is just a WiFi camera APP after-all.

I was under the impression that it would have sound from the locomotive, was I mistaken?

No sounds in our camera.

Question for you Dave.  why can't this app and the other apps lionel is offering be made to have the ability to be moved to an external storage?

phones storage fills up fast.

I'm sure Dave will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the camera/app pair will stream video to the device (phone, tablet, etc) but will not save it.

The Lionel camera app did allow me to record video (no audio) directly to my tablet. However, while the video was streamed from the camera at 720p the recorded video was only 480p.

Sorry to spoil the fun and I like cameras in trains, but: you only get "1" view out of the camera, mainly: looking over the roofs of the cars in front(or where you have been-reverse) and that poor view only goes to your I phone(driod)(??). I am particular to the K-Line camera car: you can point the camera any way you want, how about a side view of the passing scenery while looking out the side of a train, like a hobo!! Or showing the drive rods as you chug along! All this can go to a large screen TV, which has an included receiver.  I'm gonna stay with my K-Line camera car. Just old school with modern tech.

I built a camera car using FPV drone stuff and was pretty happy with the video quality.

Here is a video of it: https://ogrforum.com/...5549118903864/a/true
The phone I recorded this on wasn't of the best quality and the output image quality is much better in person. What I like about it is the center rail does not move very far from the center of the screen on curves.
Here is a link to info about the build: https://ogrforum.com/...35#72805549098596735

The biggest downside is that everything is analog, so small blips in the signal mean you see some static. The upside is that the output is 30Fps no matter the signal level, and the image is live with no latency.

Depending how the camera is mounted you can always change it to mount on a servo and add an ERR board to control the servo to turn the cam any direction you want with your cab-1,2 or phone app. So really your not spoiling any fun for me!  Now just to wait for my roadname.

I got my NS Caboose yesterday and placed it on my layout I'm happy with how it performed. I really like the fact that it runs off track power and that I can connect up to four cameras using the app. I will be buying two maybe three more just for my personal fun. I hope Lionel comes up with something for the front of my trains or I'll take a camera out of a caboose and mount it on a flat car or something.

Guys, I link my phone to my computer with a USB cable.  The snapshots and videos are in the camera file on my phone, and can be accessed that way.  You can see each, download to a file on your computer, and then delete the files on your phone.  I still can't get the software to find my phone from my computer, but, I download the files and get a nice large view.

I hope this answers some of your questions about saving camera files.

Find a old railscope go and modify

Nothing but frustration here. Downloaded the app but cannot get any type of signal from the caboose in my Wi-Fi settings.

It took some practice but I had to play with it for about 30 mins before I got it to work. Try holding down the camera reset button for a couple of seconds and see if it shows up in your wifi settings. Try this a few times and be patient it will take several seconds before it appears.  If that doesn't work delete any camera data in the app and close completely and start over, First place the caboose on the layout then power up and reset the camera, then go to settings and look for the UID, this was trial and error for me.

John,

Mine worked right away, then I messed with it, trying to get it to link with my computer.  Then, I couldn't get it to work with my phone, either.  After some similar discussion here on the forum, I simply restarted my phone, and reset the camera car.  Waited about 2 minutes, and there it was.

Still can't get it to work with my computer.  Hope this helps.

This is precisely the view that I want, just as if I were sitting in the cupola.

That said, the whole thing seems to be far too much trouble.  when they get to the point that I can flip a switch on the caboose,  place it on the track, throttle up the transformer, and see the image on my desktop via the wifi without my having to become a computer programmer, then I will think about buying one.
