As with many plug and play items, typically the recommendation is for aux constant on power. Around 10-14V

Your product number http://www.lionel.com/products...o-boys-home-6-82100/

You failed to mention what transformer you have, what track you have, and so we have no understanding other than generic conventional operation mentioned.

Also note, on the support page, there is mention about the pigtail- something you might need and may or may not have been included? https://www.lionelsupport.com/...press-Hero-Boys-Home

Also, over in this topic- since I could not find a manual specific to the house you mentioned, if using tubular track, and a track lockon and the plug and play pigtail adapter.

Again, unfortunately, the product support page was not showing the manual for your product, so at best, we have to guess and go off how other items worked with the plug and play system.

FWIW, I am trying to help. The problem is, we get into this guessing game, get it wrong and so forth.

In theory, something that new likely has LEDs, thus is has voltage regulation and rectification so it works with AC or DC since Lionchief Plug and Play is by default 18V DC. Something like this with lights is relatively easy, low power, and likely works over the typical conventional voltage range.

Add into the mix, zero online documentation to reference.

As far as your sawmill. Again, product number required because they made so many versions. The older vibration motor based units might work best on a given voltage, plug and play versions, again with regulators and can motors, LED lighting, might be way more tolerant.

You asked what is "best" and I understand the desire, but there are variables and details that could come into play and the one size fits all answer may not be best.
