I just received an email from Mario's Trains that said these are back In Stock. I checked a couple other forum sponsors and found the same to be true for them. This is great news! I have been waiting to get one for a couple years! Did Lionel finally deliver the new ones?

You mean I can't sell my extras for $300 now....dang
I hope they made a boat load so they don't run out again in a week or two. Should be a lot of demand from the back log of folks that have been waiting for them. I am really hoping they are exactly like the previous ones with no changes. Mine should be here tomorrow so we will soon see.
I received mine yesterday from Legacy Station.. Date stamp: 201703..
Mine arrived this afternoon. They look just like the old ones, I didn't notice anything different in looks. Just as heavy too!!
Haven't yet connected one to try them out.
received mine today I wired it up and it works well but age is catching up as it seemed to weigh more than I remember.
so my logging line has its own power supply and it runs the 3rd rail 2-6-0 very nicely and quite slow too.
good thing I don't need anymore as my rolling table is out of room for any more.
have no idea what they changed internally as externally they look the same all but the original ones produce loooooooooong ago as its case is square instead of the current rounded looking case.

There is a lot of expensive smoke in them.. lol
Is there any official word about what was changed, or anyone out there that has one of the new units that is capable of testing the breaker at various loads to see how it stacks up with the original?

Free shipping makes Mario's @ $79 the best deal, but I already had ordered from Charles Ro @ $75 plus $9 shipping after the first heads-up was posted on May 5. Darn, overpaid 58 cents for two bricks, but then like the old saying goes, "A 180W brick in hand is worth two on Lionel's future delivery schedule (or five listed on eBay at scalper prices)."
What, me worry?

Hehe, I was thinking the exact same thing!! I got two of them in the factory shipping carton, then put into a larger box with some packing material. Could barely pick it up off the porch on m first try. I think we should just keep the blame on age!
Woodson,
It's HEAVY smoke too!
JGL,
I could test mine by shorting them, but I don't have anything for a load to test that way. I would be open for suggestions though.

Recall 135W square case units. Were there 180W square case units also?
This was the first new shipment in for these. There will be a second shipment near the end of the year that will also include the GW180s.
We plan to keep stock on these as they are popular transformers.
Thanks
No, the 180W were always the rounded square (yeah, yeah, I know LOL) ones. The 135W were the square rectangular ones. I actually like the shape of those better than the 180W.

What are the GW180s and how do they differ from regular?
The GW180 includes the controller making up a complete transformer.
