The why behind "why that's a problem", if not hosted on a known and checked app store, implies you downloading an unapproved app. In fact, I would think you need to bypass a few security checks to install from an untrusted source-depending on your device and it's OS and settings.

From a review standpoint:

I have an earlier run of the Caboose, the Norfolk Southern that I body swapped with the Veterans paint scheme caboose. I took out the window in front of the camera on mine during the body swap. That said, I do not use it often because of the waiting for it to stand up a wifi network, connect your tablet or device to that network, and then begin streaming. That coupled with the low frame rate or resolution tradeoffs, and generally I just wish I had gone to a dedicated 5Ghz camera and receiver setup many drones use. I could get way better frame rates, more easily connect to a large screen TV, the list goes on an on. Again, it's not like better cameras, better transmitters, and better formats do not exist. You add that to the window reflections and distortion problem, and sorry, but DIY can do way better than this manufactured version.

I hope you enjoy it- you bought and paid for it already.

I don't see how somehow Lionel resolved the previous problems. It would require custom window or other details using different lens glass, and a cost, let alone a different camera module.

I'm not trying to be overly harsh, but I refuse to call something good when it isn't.

I have a few of them and have no issues. Follow the directions, like the Theater cars and they work fine.

Both the theatre car and OBS cars I have work OK.  I removed the plastic windows on both and the clarity is much improved. Yes, Lionel could have put a better camera in for sure, but for what it is, I'm happy. I'm not shooting a movie with these cars>>LOL

Great video’s . This is why I loved Lionel’s original railscope. With the camera in the nose of a GP9 I believe it was like you are in the engineers seat.
