Is anyone else worried about the color of Lionel’s new J? The passenger cars and tool car seem a little bright. I’m worried about what that stripe is going to look like. Maybe I’m wrong.

They did the same thing with the Reading & Northern Coaches last year. The red was VERY bright. I kinda figured Lionel couldn't mess up too bad with this engine since she has a rather simple color scheme. I guess we'll have to wait and see...
At their rate it will be wrong. They admitted in a notch6 podcast that the Norfolk southern theater car wouldn't match the cars for the ns business train and will most likely remake it.
You guys are worried about color match? I’m shaking in my boots about the stripe lining up with the tender. I altered my last one but not this time. It better be dead on or I’m sending it back. Can’t think of too many engines that Lionel has done more than the J. Get it correct please!
It most likely has to do with the old film from the original photographers.

There was also the backwards letter used in place of a number on the 612:
Backwards S masquerading as the # 2

Maybe they will give it some articulated chuffing sounds!

I doubt it. I heard Lionel said on Facebook that it will have the same sounds as the 2012 J, but with the new 611 crew talk. They also said that 611's stripe color has changed over the years, so hopefully the stripe would be the correct color.
I guess Lionel doesn’t have access to any original paint chips or formulas?
I’m sure they exist with a historical society somewhere
I don’t understand the lack of research on colour and graphics by Lionel MTH and others.
No excuse really

In printing, each color has a Print Media System Number to prevent color differences, other than those caused by press operator errors of adding too much water to the printing plate and fading the color/washing it out.

Sorry to say they don't, at least not for the original (40's/50's) paint. This can result in a big bone of contention within the society ranks. Everyone everywhere has their own idea of what steam era N&W Tuscan Red should look like.
In my own opinion, Lionel had the paint right with the original 18" passenger cars.
The newer version of the "Business cars" is a completely different color paint. A simple inquiry to NS should result in paint chips to match.

You CAN post a link to the image.
Good points; however, the 611 and OCS consist are alive and well. They could have matched the paint colors with the real things!

The color of the 611 stripe should be completely different from the OCS car color.
The 611 stripe should match the "Norfolk And Western" passenger cars, it is a non-metallic color.
The OCS cars are a metallic color and have a bit of purple tint to them.
Now, being that it seems to be too much to ask for everyone to get on the same page/color chart, they should at least match the color of their own cars from run to another.
I have been really tempted to purchase the AFT fantasy version of this engine since I am both a 611 and AFT fan. Still on the fence, it is a lot of money.
