I have three Lionel locomotives (2 steam, 1 diesel) that run on my layout (never all at once, though!) The 2 steam locos run and are addressable perfectly normally.

HOWEVER, once I give power to the track (MTH Realtrax) via Z-4000 this SD-40 immediately starts up, motor running with diesel sounds BUT it is completely non-responsive to the Cab-2 throttle. It is not addressable. Going to program mode and changing the ID # didn't fix the problem.  I always power on the command base before sending power to the track.

HOWEVER, if I touch the red direction button (on the Z-4000 transformer) once and then fairly quickly press it again (going to neutral), the loco now become addressable via its ID number. It now runs normally with the Cab-2 throttle. Note that I don't have to do any of this fooling around with the transformer to run the other two Lionel locomotives.

Do I have some setting that is incorrect? It seems as if the loco wants to be and start up as a "conventional" loco.

The only other bit of info is that last year I tried to add the loco to an MTH throttle as a TMCC loco. Could that have messed something up?

Thanks in advance.
Also, if this in in the wrong part of the Forum, please advise.
