So I have had a Lionel 72-8261-250 running for some time now.  Recently it started acting up not always responding to the command base model 991.  So I went to reset it and I ran into a strange issue.

Its the only train on the track.  Powered down the track.  Placed the train into program mode however each time power is restored the engine starts up giving off throttle sounds.  It is then unresponsive to the set program.  I cleared all the original settings.  Isolated the track to make sure there was no interference but still it will not respond to the remote.  Any ideas.  I have tried 7 other legacy trains and had no issues.  I even reprogrammed another to make sure I was doing it correct.  If the train is in Run or Pgm mode it does the exact same thing engine starts up sounds like its throttling, but no controls no movement no indication it can hear the legacy remote.

Any ideas?

I have an older SD70 (2014) that had a similar issue.  It turned out to be the RCMC receiver board.  I would start by removing the shell and make sure the antenna wire and all the boards are secure.  It would be great if you could swap the receiver board with a known working one but, I believe there have been a couple of revisions to the boards so you would have check carefully before swapping.

By the way, that number you posted is for the operating manual, not the locomotive.

Thank you both for the fast reply.  This is the link for the wiring diagram https://www.lionelsupport.com/...D28264000SD70ACE.pdf    I have checked all the wiring and everything feels strong.  Got it to work once then when right back to the same error.  Whether it's in Program or Run as soon as legacy powers up to 18v lights start flickering and the horns and words start going off sporadically with no ability to control anything.  Also you are right 2008 actual model number is 6-28316.

Thanks,

Alex
