This caboose has a smoke unit with no fan or puffer. The resistor hangs, vertically, in a 1/2 diameter tube. It never smoked well and now that I have it apart I see why. It looks like the original idea was to wrap the wick around the resistor, but that didn't work out very well. Only part of the wick was touching the resistor and the rest was curled up in the 2 feeder wires. There was still smoke fluid in the bottom of the tube but the wick couldn't reach it. The wick is burnt to a crisp where it was touching the resistor.
Now it is time to repack the thing. Should the wick be wound around the resistor and fed down to the bottom of the tube. Or, should I cut the wick, as Mike showed us, and make a pile up to the resistor?
Thoughts?
