Joe,

Lionelsupport.com shows only two kinds of lamps, and doesn't indicate specifically what they illuminate:

Take a guess perhaps?  You'll be half right either way.

On the other hand the red one seems like it's red for a reason, and that might be for use as a marker.   "Unavailable" is not a good omen.  Time to try an alternate source.

Does anybody know what type of marker light bulb is used for the Lionel standard gauge Hiawatha.  Thanks.

Do you have one that is burned out and you're trying to match the part number, or are they missing on your engine?

Sorry that I can't help with the part number, but I might be able to provide a picture of the bulb if that's what you need.

The bulb is still in the engine. I already checked to make sure all the wires were connected, but now I need to go back in and look at the bulb type. Just figured I would check here to see if anyone had been through this before I open it up again.

Yeah, Lionel does not list the ones for the Marker lights.  Not sure if they considered them permanent, not replaceable.  Never had them out, so let us know what type they are.  I think this engine is too early for LED's.  Probably Grain of Wheat bulbs.

You've probably already checked, but just in case... You mentioned that the wires are connected, but have you verified that there is voltage getting to the light?  I've found that the heavy shell makes it easy to pull or pinch the wires in that engine.

Also, I can't recall if those bulbs are grounded to the boiler - that could be another failure point.

Edit:  Was typing this reply at the same time you posted the pics.  Looks like it shouldn't be too difficult to splice in a new bulb.
