Hi all --
I bought some Quality Craft kits off eBay and started tinkering with this C&O Caboose one. I have some trucks from Lionel cars that I harvested and plan to use on this caboose. My question is how best to mount the trucks to the caboose? Should I tap holes before assembling the entire car or is there a different way to install the trucks after I've completed the kit.

It depends on whether the Quality Craft kits have the truck bolsters installed. Lionel and MTH don't use bolsters, but instead mount the trucks directly to the floor of the car. Most of the O scale cars I've encountered are set up to use Athearn or Weaver trucks that re designed to ride against a bolster.
If the car has a bolster, using Lionel or MTH trucks will cause the car to ride too high. This can be fixed by removing the bolster and mounting the truck directly to the floor. A better choice would be using Weaver, Athearn or Atlas trucks.
Thanks for the replies, gentlemen. As this is my first kit, I'll defer to your recommendations and purchase some Weaver trucks. They just easily mount onto the kit bolsters?
