I recently acquired a Type V transformer. The cord has been replaced, and each throttle puts out about 22 volts when it's maxed out. I assumed that with 4 throttles, that for each pair of posts, one is the common and the other is the "hot".

But here's the thing. On my MRC two throttle transformer (the one that looks like a ZW), the commons for each track and the accessories are all wired together, just like on a ZW. On the type V, the commons don't appear to be connected, as when I tried to run a train with it, the train ran when I connected the wires to the pair of taps assigned to that throttle, but if I tried moving the common wire to the next common terminal, I got no voltage out. Are all the hots and commons independent on this type of transformer?

I'm assuming that the bottom terminal is the common. Is this incorrect?

Thanks, Guys.

The version I have has the numbers for each pair, but the letters are missing for some reason. Maybe it's a factory error?

In any event, I can can see now why moving the bottom wire did't work, as the common is the top wire. That's actually reversed from the ZW.

I'll try moving the bottom wire next time.

Thanks again.
