Figure on if the old one breaks, parts are no longer available, the new ones not perfect, but at least parts are around.
Any board in the TMCC engine can be replaced with an ERR equivalent.

what is ERR?

Well, that's almost true. However, for the Veranda, the motherboard is a unique board, and it's not been available for several years. It controls both smoke units and provides the regulator function for both smokes. It also does the switching between them on queue. It's actually got a lot of active parts on it.

I might pass
Before the motherboard supply dried up, I bought a spare for mine as I didn't want to be left in the lurch.

How many of these have you had to replace?

I have both versions and my practical advice is don't go for the older TMCC one. It's a fine model, certain of the operating features (lights and smoke sequence - but not sound) are better than the Legacy version, and generally it's a forerunner of the Vision Line. But after this length of time, whether it's been run or not, you may have hardware issues that cannot be remedied. I also have a spare TMCC motherboard and some other parts that I got before the supply dried up but having to install any of it would be a real challenge even for an expert.

One, that's why I bought an extra when I saw it. I realized that functionality would go down the drain without it.

Not sure why you say this, truthfully, there are a lot harder tasks than installing a new diesel motherboard.
