Shouldn’t there be magnets on the lid and the boiler? This is the rear cover just in front of the dynamo’s. The lid slides side to side loosely. Model is the SP Lines Daylight GS4 2031520.

The magnets are in the lid, but clearly they're missing from the body of the locomotive.

I was pretty sure they should be there. Curious if others are missing...
They are prolly in the locomotive. Good luck getting them out.

This is not a good sign. I've seen, as many of you, that there have been issues with pinched wires and etc. I have a GS2 ordered and told my dealer not to run it right out of the box. It needs to be opened and inspected before power. Pretty ugly for Visionline. Mine is stuck in Indianapolis with bad weather. I expect my dealer to get it today or tomorrow. I will report on a topic for the GS2
What keeps the smoke going to the dynamo? Just that block of foam?

I would assume so. Lionel has used a similar arrangement on a number of engines in the past although usually the pad is smaller.
P.S. Presumably the sort of smaiil round magnets that are used with reed chuff switches could be glued where there are missing ones. But having to think about the issues people are facing with assembly defects is discouraging, to say the least.
@StaMic006 posted:The pad seems to do the trick because the dynamos really put out the smoke.
Fair enough. It just seems like over time once the pad gets soaked. The fluid could start migrating under the shell.
I could be wrong but the magnets are in top and I’d imagine just some metal washers where glued to the shell
Lionel is mailing me some magnets.
