Contemplating buying one of Lionel's Wi-fi theater cars.

Can these cars be used without a smartphone/smart device?

The accompanying info on the Lionel website says "Just download the free app and connect via your phone, tablet or pc - no additional hardware is required!". Note the reference to "pc".

I tried to find a copy of the Owner's Manual online, but no such luck (even on the Lionel Support website).

Thanks.

I have one of those but was never able to get it working on my pc. I gave up as I decided to two-rail it, disconnect all of the electronics, and just use it as another observation/business car.

EDIT: I found my instruction book and it comes with one of those "mini-cds" labeled "DRIVER"; luckily my pc was able to read it but one of the programs on it caused my anti-virus program to light up like Times Square on New Years Eve!

@PRRMP54 - Your AV program probably didn't like it because it sent info out from your PC. Over the years I've learned that sometimes you just have to "allow" some programs - especially if you know what it's doing.

@PRRMP54 - I wonder if the theater cars in the the 21270XX numbered SKUs are any different than yours - especially software wise.

I'm specifically looking at the BNSF Wi-Fi Theater Car (2127030) theater car (I try to keep with the BNSF and it's predecessors).
