when will part 2 come out?  Part 1 came with the scout set and my kids like it.  btw I am glad I put the scout set under the tree this year instead of my premier MTH  Loco.  My 2 younger ones can't keep it on the track.  My 14 month old even has figured out how to run it already.  what a girl.

Part one sucked! Not only that it never ended, it just stopped. If that's the best Lionel can do they need to forget about producing movies and stay with toy trains.

I think very highly of your opinion Nicole but I would rather sit through ten Chick-flicks on a pack of tacs then have to go through another aimless mess like what we saw mind numb one.

my children liked it is why I asked.  They play it over and over.  They even pretent to be in the movie(hopefully not the part where their parents are missing for 8 years :-) )

I'd like to see Lionel make a movie that mimics actual train operation, radio calls, signals, commo between engineer and fireman etc so the children can learn actual rail speak.

What Lionel should do is hire someone to write up an iPad/iPhone/Android train-running app, where you get Lionel trains and build your layout and run the trains.  That would be a way to get young kids to know about Lionel trains, and maybe want the real thing.  There are train running apps out there, so one could probably relatively easily be modified for this application.

When speaking with Jerry Calabrese about the movie at Charlie Ro's open house over a year ago, Jerry said that making a working model of the locomotive in the movie was a very good possibility.

They already have the tender, from the 2-10+10-2 steam loco, that only needs some trim deco changes, so the loco would not be that much more of an expense.

It could be a tie-in to the release of the next installment of the movie saga! This loco could be the next hit like the  "Polar Express".

We need to flood Jerry with requests for the next release and the making of

"THE LOCO"!  Fire up those laptops and send your e-mails or even snail mail to Jerry!

Yeah...only several hundred thousand dollars or so.

In my opinion, the locomotive seen in the movie lends itself far more to a tinplate version.  It just has that "tinplate look" about it.

But it may be time for a reality check:  They darn near couldn't give the first movie away, and you can still get it for next to nothing.  From a business perspective, that sort of record doesn't bode well, especially for a sequel.  You need an audience far more extensive than a bunch of train fans.

A friend of mine bought his for a dollar on ebay, then used a dollar off coupon he had, essentially getting it for free.

He want's his coupon back...  plus another one for pain and suffering...

Well, I can see that this could get ugly, what with Allen saying, NO, NO, NO; and Rusty expecting a Cecil B. DeMille/Steven Spielberg/AVATAR production.  I'm just an old fossil that grew up with the air whistle in steam locos and a battery horn in diesels, but I had/have IMAGINATION; something that seems to be lost in today's world of thought.  I feel sorry for you guys that can't see the movie for it's intended purpose.  I guess my body grew up but my mind still sees the MAGIC of LIONEL and LIONELVILLE.  Dennis M.

Well said Dennis M.  I wholeheartedly agree about imagination. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and was very disappointed to find that part 2 is not yet available. I love movies intended for kids of all ages, as I can switch the logical part of my mind off, and let my imagination take me on a wondrous adventure where the laws of reality do not have apply.

I did not like the first movie, but I have to admit I would love to have a model of the engine, I thought it was cool looking.

Well watching ten chick flics on a pack of tacs may be better then part one, but a truly unique Lionel engine is a must in my book.

I never said I was expecting a C. B. Demille/Spielberg type type production.  I expect a decent story and characters I can believe.  I've watched and enjoyed many CGI and traditional toons aimed at all ages, but Lionelville isn't on the list.

I also remember this:

I still get a chuckle out of it, probably more for the "our ignorant past" aspect that Dr. Science talked about, but it's not as easy to watch as it was when I was a kid.

And, I've never seen Avatar...

Lionel deserves credit for stepping out of the comfort zone for a potentially successful foray into animation. However, the final result was a laughable mess, and I don't buy the excuses that "it's just for kids" and "What do you expect a Spielberg production?". Children's shows are still expected to have a good sense of plot, characters, and animation. Lionelville whiffed on all three.

Get your kids into live action Thomas for an excellent children's train show. The only thing Lionelville is really good for is collectors who want to own an oddball piece of Lionel licensed merchandise.

For what it's worth, I think the end of part 1 set the stage for a lot of potential follow on work, should Lionel choose too.  Ending at the terminal like it did could facilitate numerous other parts, each following a different train and an accompanying storyline from the station.

I hope that they recognize this potential, and are working with quality writers to make the most of the opportunity.  It could serve as a way to also educate the youth on many of the different 'classic' trains, and introduce new ones, which could boost sales for the company.

I did not say NO, NO, NO.  I simply stated that looking at it logically (as any business should and likely would do), the first movie was by no means a roaring success--that is simply the truth.  And given the cost of producing such things, it wouldn't make much sense to rush into a Part 2.

If we were living in boom times when money was flowing freely and when the hobby was growing like gangbusters, I might have a different view, but I'm just expressing my own opinion from what I feel is an entirely reasonable perspective.

I must admit I had not seen this clip before so I took the time to watch now. At first I was thinking scott.smith is just anti-Lionel, but the more I think about it, I just feel sorry for him.

Charlie,

Are you saying you like the YouTube that Rusty linked to? The train footage was good, but the puppets and dialogue were pretty sorry. I haven't said this yet, I did like Lionelville the movie. I would like to have a model of the train in the movie. I do agree with Allan that the engine would look best in tinplate.
