Are there any O scale/gauge modelers who are interested in this subject? There is an article in the

July 1978 MRR entitled "The possibilities of the live diesel-electric". There's a lengthy discussion

on the feasibility for such a locomotive in O scale. I've given some thought to the possibility of

such a model in 17/64ths scale.  There has also been some discussion of this on the

International Brotherhood of Live Steamers website (ibls.org).

Back many, many years ago (more than 60 years ago), I remember an employee of the DL&W RR in New Jersey, had a frame-work O Scale layout. He had 2 live steam locomotives that burned alcohol. Pretty interesting to watch them run. That said, since the fuel burned very clean, there was no "smoke" in his basement.

Now, just what sort of very small internal combustion prime mover use for fuel, such that the exhaust would NOT run everybody out of the train room?
