I picked this up for $120 recently. I originally thought it was a Lobaugh 0-6-0, but has markings on it that I have never seen that makes me think some other manufacturer. Plus the gearbox is on the middle driver. The gearbox has been upgraded. Noting the bridge rectifier, this has to be an AC MOTOR, not sure if that has any value. Seems to work but noisy.

Can’t help with the ID, but I can say that it is likely a dc motor and the bridge rectifier is hooked up a bit differently to allow the engine to change direction with track polarity… I have the same setup in the 2-8-2 I just bought…
I think you mean a series wound or universal order (also some call AC motor). If it were a DC, or permanent magnet motor, you don't need any electrical/electronics to change direction. You simply reverse the DC polarity to motor brushes via the track.
His engine and mine have the same style motor (wound field). They’re intended to run on dc and the bridge allows the engine to change direction with track polarity… Bob shared the wiring diagram in the thread on my engine…
Thank you all for the advice and help.
More photos, if you want an ID.
Could it be a toby usra 0-6-0?
The frame casting looks like early Lobaugh.
Can you provide pictures of the cab and tender if you have them?
