Is the brain of DCS located in the TIU or in the remote?  I'm having several different issues with DCS system.  I'm getting a lot of no engine found errors despite running the same engines successful in previous operating sessions.   I keep having to delete and add engines when it can't read them succcessfully.  In addition, I have never been able to get the WIFI addon to work.  I've tried multiple troubleshoot techniques, and I  think the problem is in the serial to USB connection.   The USB to serial cable worked fine to upgrade to DCS 6.0, but I don't think it is working correctly between the TIU and WIFI adapter  I've tried multiple cables with  no luck

I'm wondering if I need a new TIU, in particular because I have one of the older ones with a serial port.  It would really be nice to have one with a USB port.

The TIU should work with a proper adapter for the wifi. The fact that you're having success after deleting and re-adding might tell something.

How old are these engines? Batteries charged? (do they play full sounds when you kill the power?)

You really need to trouble shoot your set-up methodically. What kind of results do you get from a signal strength test?

Connect (tether) the TIU's Remote Input port to the jack at the bottom of the remote with a (curly) 4-conductor telephone handset cable and see if things improve.

DCS Book CoverThis and a whole lot more about DCS is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Any DCS App/WIU problems are a different issue altogether.

T'Weed, my ancient Rev Gs and newer Rev H work just fine with the WIU.  I would set the Wifi system aside until I get to the bottom of the issues.

Are the problem engines' batteries (if any) good--that sound keeps playing for about 6-7 seconds after power to track is cut off?

Are all TIU-track connections tight?  Are the cables 16-gauge or thicker?

Are remote & TIU running the same version of the software?

It's probably not a TIU or remote issue.  Some USB>serial cables don't work as well as others, but if, with no WIU connected, you are having issues, then it;s not the cable.
