After working fine for a couple of years my Lionel TMCC loco will not respond to TMCC signals. We are running two separate loops, both powered by postwar ZW, and using the Command Base and do not use Powermasters. Our Atlas diesel responds to commands on both loops so I have ruled out Command base and wiring problems. The Lionel loco will not respond on either loop.

We have followed the instructions to reset the loco with no success. I first followed the directions that came with the loco, then tried the reset directions listed in the TMCC book.

The loco is the Mikado Jr from the Hot Box Reefer set.

We have cleaned the track and the pickup rollers and wheels.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Look at the loco's handrails. They are the antennas for the radio receiver.

I had a traditional size Lionel K-4 and the flywheel on the motor rubbed through the internal wiring from the handrails, shorting them out. Heat shrink insulation and re-routing them solved that problem.

You might also look to see if the run-program switch is in the wrong position, or acting up. Switch it back and forth quickly several times to clean the internal contacts.
