You mentioned in your book that you used extension cables for the TIU serial ports as well as using a long serial ribbon cable to connect PC to TIU. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could purchase these cables? My desktop is about 20' from my layout and TIU setup.

An alternative, if you're just p[rogramming TIU and/or remote, rather than loading sound files, is to move the TIU to the computer and power it with a wall wart

You should be able to get the extension cables from any number if companies that sell computer cables on the web.
Thew long serial cable that I have from the PC in the work room to the layout is one that I built from a long piece of 9-conductor ribbon cable and a pair of clamp-on DB9 connectors, one male and the other female. These should also be available online.

Barry, just for the benefit of forumites who are thinking of doing this with USB, isn't there about a 12' limit on the usable length of a USB cable

There are USB "range extender" cables available. CompUSA/Tiger Direct, among others, stocks them.
