Gentlemen,
As some of you may know my boss was President Reagan, I always admired his Tin Plate American Flyer, Silver Presidential Train, his was Standard Gauge original. I would like to purchase an O guage or Standard Guage reproduction, is there such a train available anywhere, and what would it cost me.

I think this is what you're looking for?

Nothing in O gauge.

Lionel Classics and MTH have made the "Mayflower" set that I think you are referring to. I think Lionel owns the American Flyer name, and the Lionel Classics version would have been made maybe 20 plus years ago, but MTH would be more recent. Additionally, MTH now licenses under the Lionel name so at some point, it may come available again

I know that Sirus and Varney also made the President set, but I do not know if they did it in chrome (silver).

I'm going from selective memory here, as I do not follow much of the modern or reproduction tinplate. Maybe someone who cares more about the new stuff can speak more correctly on when things came out.

An original Mayflower is most likely out of reach for all but the most wealthy collectors.

It really must have been something to have known Ronald Reagan. There are few truly great Americans out there. I count him as one of them, and as a man who was true to the core of what this country was founded on. Can't say that about too many "Statesmen".
Ives,
Thank you so much, that is the set I was looking for and could not find because they had used a different name on her, to me it's still the Presidential silver train, in 0 Guage no matter what
other name they placed on her. Now I will have to get some money together to purchase her. Man I wish MTH would make a DCS controlled repro! I put her in my favorites Bar.
Thanks much

Stur-it,
Your Presidental Train is just fantastic, I have never seen it in Blue, way cool

jsrfo,
Thanks you sir for the kind words about my boss, he made my life worth while again after my father passed away in 84, his son Michel is one heck of a good man also. To me other than GW President Reagan was the greatest President who ever lived. I miss him very badly.

Stur-it,
Yes sir I realize yours is Standard guage and its fantastic, congrats on owning a very serious part of history. I am going to talk with Dave over at his hobby shop about trying to order me one of the lionel, O Gauge American Flyer Mayflower
sets (Traditional) - Chrome Plated. Going to see at what actual price he can get one for me, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you gentlemen so much for your advise.

Dave, no problem...glad to help a fellow tinplater. Here is a link to the proto version with sound and DC can motors. It's the same MTH number, but with a "dash one" (-1) instead of a -0 behind the item number. I think you can run this with MTH's DCS (wireless remote) system, but I am not 100% sure. It might just be conventional with a sound system and can motors. Perhaps others could chime in if you can run it with DCS wireless? I know their plastic models can, but I've never played with or purchased a proto 2.0 tinplate set.

Also, if you want, give this shop a call about ordering a set. I have bought most of the few MTH items I have from them...always top notch service and great prices.

One thing to consider when looking at the MTH O gauge Mayflower Junior is that it does not have the articulated style of engine that the Standard Gauge set has. It looks more like the engine that AF put with the Potomac set, only in chrome. Don't know if the lack of articulated trucks bothers you or not. For me, the articulating trucks and eagle on the pedestal make the set.

But it looks good, nonetheless. I'd like to see that set of cars in the Prosperity chrome and copper with an 1122, or maybe a black diamond.
Ives,
I know I will be a able to run it from my hand held on the conventional side,
however there is no P2 sound system, which would be seriously cool. Thanks much for the contact info!

jsrfo,
It does make a big difference to me also, however I have never seen an Articulated Silver Engine in O Gauge. It looks like I will have to settle for the standard Tin Plate engine, unless you can advise me as to where I can find a Silver Articulated Presidential 0 Gauge engine, and yes the eagle is a great part of the real Presidential Train, I plan on installing a Silver Full Bird Colonel insignia on the front of the Mayflower Silver Engine, if I purchase the train set.

The O gauge set looks very nice and a nice value.

MTH recently made the Blue Presidents set so a Mayflower in the next cat. would not be surprising. The Blue set was $1620 street price so a Mayflower would be the same or a little more.

The Lionel Classics and MTH Mayflower sets a rarely seen on E-Bay. When they are there sellors are looking for $2500.
Night Hawk,
Please find one for me and I will definitely take a look at her, I do not like bidding on anything.

Chuck,
I doubt you know my name in fact if you do my boss would have been pretty upset with me and the team, I was US Army CID, Presidential Security at the time. We were activated after President Reagan was shot, as Commander and Chief he wanted ultimate security, he had both Secret Service and Military CID Agents from that point on. As he said the kinder, gentler Ronald Reagan is now gone,
and he ment it. Chuck check your e-mail.
