Looking for some repair advice on a Lionel Legacy UP DD35 6-28311.

The cab is blinking 5 times (I am assuming this is the rear smoke unit on the DD35 since it has separate front and rear smoke units).  The front unit smokes, the rear unit does not smoke or run, and I get a blinking cab light.  I have tried the reset with no luck.  I try turning off the smoke, but the front unit still runs.  I am assuming somehow the front and rear unit are tied together electronically.  If I turn off the rear smoke unit switch (with front smoke switch on), the front unit works fine with no blinking cab lights.

What do you think needs to be repaired on this unit, the rear unit smoke board, or something else.

Thanks for your help.

Chuck, thanks for the tips.  I tore into the loco today and found the resistor on the front unit was burned up as well as the one leg of it broke off from the board (so an open circuit).  That's what was tripping the trouble code.  I swapped the front and rear smoke unit and the trouble followed the smoke unit.  I ordered a new smoke unit from Lionel, but probably only needed the resistor.

thanks again,

You certainly didn't need a whole smoke unit, the resistors are easily replaceable.
