Are there different sizes? How do I know which size to buy? Where I can buy them? Lionel appears to be out of stock on all of them and provides really no useful information.

Has anyone every tried green snot? Seems to be a pain to install on the wheels. How long does it last?

Jeffrey,

Both of your topics have been discussed in this Forum at length -- many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many times in the past, including quite recently.

Search is your friend.  If you type either 'traction tires' or 'bullfrog snot' in the exact phrase box on the Forum Search page (go to the search tab) you will get plenty of relevant feedback.

I can appreciate OP Jerry’s frustration. Until I locked on to using MTH’s traction tires shown in Pat’s post, I was bewildered, too.

I run only Lionel locomotives, but MTH’s tires fit well and last a long time. 👍

If you guys take a moment to peruse through the improved mthpartsandsales.com traction tire list Mike Reagan has prepared, you’ll find out that 99.9% of all MTH tires can be used to service other brands…..If you guys would like, I’d be happy to point out what works with what, on another thread, however, it’s pretty much common sense,…..just match locomotive to locomotive, ….chances are it’ll match,….

Pat

I can vouch for the mth diesel traction tires as well. My first legacy diesel  had a horrible death wobble to it. Pulled the over sized , thick, and gummy like oem tires off. Put the mth ones on, that happen to fit  in the groove much better imo. She's as smooth as silk with no wobble. It does get frustratimg, especially when you over look  the obvious. But, these guys and this forum are a great value to us.

The MTH chart also gives you wheel diameters so you can pick out tires for most any engine.

thanks everybody. In the future, I will better avail myself of the search capability. That said, in my experience, when you search for something on a site, you often times get so much data and it's almost impossible to go through. Not sure that's the case here, but I will try the search on this site to see what it comes up with - just for future reference.

Even to the more seasoned parts searchers, the limited capability of the search engines are a major issue, I wouldn't feel bad.  Sometimes you just need to experiment with various keywords until you hit on a winner.

That’s OK, Jeffrey and my bad for calling you Jerry in my previous post, which was corrected. Getting old, you know. 😉
