If you have not already seen the post on the three rail forum, click on this link and read about Bob Bartizek's wonderful Pennslyvania and Western Railway.  Since "Model Railroad Hobbyist" is a strictly digital magazine, there are 28 fantastic pictures in the article.

Keeping on with a great month of O scale layouts, Herm Botsow's Buckeye Railroad is featured in two articles in the April 2014 issue of "Model Railroader".

Both layouts are designed for proto-op operation, and both have articles written around that activity.

What these gentlemen accomplish is nothing short of phenomenal.  Great examples of what can accomplished when working in the basement, instead of sitting in front of the tube.  I think Herm is on his 4th layout, and his last one was a winner too.

Regards,

Jerry

Thanks for the heads up on the April MR and the link to the outstanding article on Bob Bartizek's fantastic layout.  He turned a great concept into a great plan and executed it beautifully.  He answers the "why three rail" question concisely and articulately.

I'd recommend the article to anyone planing a layout in any scale simply for the comment "Currently there are 47 industries on the railroad with a total capacity of 123 cars."  That is a model railroad with work to do!
