Hey guys!
Just got back from USMC boot camp, about to go to my next round of training, so my responses will drop off in a day or two. Model railroading was a huge help in boot, it served as a great mental distraction during runs. I've been thinking about my next build, and this post, for a while.
I'd like to build a small switching layout on a shelf. My styrene rail idea works really well, and I'm readying to take it to the next level. Pics later.
I need to build a locomotive for low-speed operations. I plan on using a bluerails board for control. This will allow battery power, and wireless control with almost no hardware. Power pick-up isn't an issue with the battery power.
I would like advice on which locomotive would be a good fit. Older locomotives are fine, and the control systems don't matter, because it's getting a bluerails board. I'm considering an older, 2 motor RS3.
Needs to be a diesel.
Low speed operation is priority #1, low cost is #2 (PFC budget).
Any info/suggestions is greatly appreciated!
Oh, any hints to coupler easier? My HO kadees close no issue, with Lionel I'm pushing cars around when I want to couple.
