A Gargraves  Remote Control Magnetic Uncoupling Section w/Tinplated rails (w round magnet purchased in 2003) killed the DCS signal in a siding.  It caused a "loose" connection in the center rail.  The Section was removed and the track now has a strong signal.  All track and wire connections in the DCS circuit must be tight.

Evidently this track was designed for the #14 wire to carry center rail power around the magnet.  It creates a very unstable connection.

The above 2003 uncoupling track had killed the siding's DCS signal since day one.  I'm catching up on roundtoits and this track was on the list.   The magnet wasn't strong enough to uncouple anything.

This old style uncoupler killed the DCS signal because the center rail pass through track power connection was inadequate (very loose connections).   I had it installed between two tracks that had their own wire taps.  Any loose connections, wire or track, in a DCS circuit will degrade the signal.

The only way that the Gargraves section could have degraded the DCS signal is if it was being activated via track power. That would put the DCS signal through the coil of the track's electromagnet.

If operated using a separate power source, as I do, there would be no DCS signal degradation.

DCS Book CoverThis and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store!

That 2003 uncoupling track had killed the DCS signal since day 1.  I'm just working on roundtoits now for several reasons.   The magnet wasn't strong enough to uncouple anything.

I'll post a photo showing the bad track connection design later.
