Making headlight in F-unit flashing

I just ordered the Lionel Superchief started set with plans to run it with some neighborhood friends. I see it has two LED headlights, and I would like to replace the upper light with a flashing LED, to simulate a gyralite.

Has anyone already done this? If so, what did you use and how easy was it to do?

Consider the ngineering.com MARS Simulator N8031, it's what I use to add MARS lights to locomotives. You will need to add a small DC power supply from track power to power it.
