Marx 3/16 couplers

I have a couple 3/16 cars that need couplers. They have metal couplers, but don't want to work at all. Are these the same as the plastic couplers that Marx used in their larger plastic 0/27 cars, or do the 3/16 cars take a different coupler all together?
