Both both use the same solenoid and gearing mechanism. Both are somewhat delicate with its plastic structures. No real advantage of one over the other unless you prefer American versus Chinese manufacture.
I had a marx one without operating guts some time ago. Yep it was fragile but intact. Always wondered on the reliability of mechanical function. Not as exciting as Lionel switch tower, but more 027 like which may work better for me.
Anyone have a Marx one in great shape for sale? Box unimportant to me.
