I am embarking on a huge project which I will try to complete by the end of the summer. We are adding new modules to our modular layout (www.RiverCity3Railers.org). I current own 12'.  I will own another 6' to decorate. The new 6 ft section with be between the lumber yard and kit-bashed factory.....at the modular break visible in these pictures.

At York, I picked up a Morrison's Door Company for the unreal price of $75. I like to build my own structures, but I figured, at that price, how could I resist.....

I ordered an Oblong Box Company from Dennis Brennan.

I have 2 Korber modular factory kits to build a factory which will have a overhand of the spur.

Lastly, I have always liked this building from the Trackers layout. These pics are from the World Greatest Hobby Show in Northern Virginia in January 2010. I am told by the current Trackers that this building no longer exists. I will try to do something similar (the good nuns in grammar and high school always said that "imitation is the highest form of flattery").

Here's the pictures from the WGH Show:

It is going to be named Max Foods, after my granddog Max.

Andre, of River Leaf Models, says that he can help me with the signage.

Max is my son's Golden Doodle and while my son was at Yale and then worked in NYC for a year (2011-16), I took care of him. Now my son is in Charlottesville and took him back. I do have liberal visitation rights.

Since Max left, work on my home layout has slowed.....he is a electrical wizard which you can see in these photos.....Luckily, while my son is doing an externship in Wilmington this summer.... he will be here with us in Richmond. I should get more layout work done.

To build this building I have accumulated 6 Lionel kits (one of them open and used on an old layout).....

I will be posting my progress as I go along. The next thing I need to do is pick a brick color (suggestions are welcome).

Looking forward to the builds. Those Lionel kits seem to be the subject of a lot of kitbashes. I find the summer a good time to do the bigger projects. Many involve painting with spray bombs. Which goes best outside.

Peter, for brick. I tend to go with a red primer. I usually assemble each wall and spray them. Mask off the areas where you will apply glue. I think if you are applying  mortar or a weathering wash it goes a lot easier on a flat surface.

Fantastic idea, will look forward to the progress. The OCD part of me has to note one minor correction.

The two photos with the Tuscan GG1 are from a show at College Park, MD Aviation Museum, probably December 2015 or 2016. Note the Goodyear Blimp on the wall in the one photo.

Thank you, Bill......that's is a show I have got to visit, too........my sister-in-law's convent is in College Park and we go up there from time to time.

More updates....mock up finished.

I believe I will proceed like this.

Get all of the 1st/2nd floor pieces together. Cut and paint. Assemble the 1st/2nd floor.

Once completed, assemble the supports for the "3rd & 4th" floors on the wings.

Cut and paint the "3rd & 4th" floor and then assemble the upper floors.

Then add the loading docks and details.

Progress this past week.....

BTW, I emailed Alex Malliae about brick colors (I love the colors he uses). He suggested Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. I tried it out yesterday, and it looks great.

Max also gave it a "paws up". Thank you, Alex!

Latest update....it's been 2 weeks and a lot of progress has been made.....

First, some cutting and painting.....

IMG_8308IMG_8309IMG_8310IMG_8312

After weathering with Roberts Mortar mixture.....then the 1st floor is slowly assembled.

IMG_8342

The bracing here is key.....

IMG_8345IMG_8346

One wall done!

IMG_8361

Adding floors give strength and stability....

IMG_8363IMG_8364IMG_8366

Now, the back wall......

IMG_8368IMG_8369IMG_8370IMG_8371IMG_8374IMG_8378

More flooring, and....Max approves!

IMG_8381IMG_8382IMG_8384

Next will be the 1st floor windows and doors; and the stairwells to the 2nd stories of the Municipal Bldg ends.

Following that, I really have to think it through......

I have to fill in some windows and doors; place roofs on the middle sections and creat the supports for the 3rd and 4th floors.

The loading docks and entrance stairs come next.

Then, the detailing.......

Not to steal Peter's thunder on his beautiful building, but. Here are two glimpses of the efficacy of the factory product circa 2018. The food is all natural, inorganic, non-GMO, sugar free, gluten free, fat free, steroid and antibiotic free, and best of all vegan. It has been certified to be pure styrene after a USDA inspection.

The Max Foods Factory is a highlight of the River City 3 Railers modular display. Max the dog is the beloved mascot of our club.

MAX FOODS is a finished product and here are the latest pics to close out this thread......I am responsible for about 18' of our modular layout and it is the one of the key pieces of my industrial area.....

The signage is Max and his relatives....brother and cousins.....

As a good citizen, MAX FOODS also does public service announcements......

The packaging, I like to say, is pure Max......and we do have a forklift, Dave.....

I get many comments about MAX FOODS and love to tell its saga.....I also highly recommend kit bashing as a way to relax and to create unique structures for your layout.....
