Midwest Monday

Well guys I don't have any video's but I do have some Penn Central for sure.  Here is a Marx set I picked up last winter... The interesting thing about Marx and his marketing strategy is that with these low end sets, you could get almost any railroad you wanted.  Look at picture 3...it is the same set only NYC vice PC (I guess the train was running just post the merger).  Change the tender and the caboose, didn't even change the set #, and you had a new RR.  There is little question, on the low end of things, Marx was a genius at marketing toys.

Same set, even same set #, but set up as a NYC train.  He didn't even change the gondola.

Hello MWM fans...its a Monday again and many folks are headed to work, hope you have a happy and productive week.  For me, I thought I might try to post something to keep our thread moving.

Here is a Marx #1998 UP switcher getting ready to move some freight up the line to a junction point.  This loco was made by Marx between 1955 -1962.

Here is his small consist, showing off the Marx 3900 UP caboose.  Made by Marx much later than the engine, between 1975-1977

Well I hope I drum up a few more Monday participants although many folks are busy at their jobs.  Best wishes to everyone.

Tom - A couple of years ago a guy in Chicago had 5 or 6 of the big PC signs from the sides of the trailer for sale and I kick myself that I didn't grab one.  Not sure the utilization of the pictured trailer but if it's getting ready to be scrapped I would take/buy any of the signs.  Jim

I believe the trailers are being used as storage for a manufacturing company in VW.

Don. These were made by Lionel. I did not build these but these were the first PS-4 Piggybacks I got in O Scale

Ok Tom I’m now looking for one of those Lionel 40’ PC trailers after this tease video of it poking its front out. I’ve had a idea for a Piggyback Flatcar with one of those trailers on it. Nice video thanks for sharing

Well hello MWM gang...seems that I am the first this Monday although its already noon here in Texas.  However, I just got this MPC boxcar and I have photographed it and have been looking forward to posting on this thread.  Its a very early MPC boxcar, from 1970 practically the first year that they brought out any trains.

So here it is, the MPC Illinois Central #9200 boxcar from 1970-71.  I love the bright orange / black livery and graphics especially the large IC logo on the car.  So here he is, my midwest Monday boxcar, the Illinois Central MPC #9200 from 1970.

Hello everyone...here it is MWM again and its already nearly noon in Texas and I seem to be the starting entry this week.  Well, that's OK, I lived in Ohio for nearly 20 years so I consider myself a "mid-westerner" anyway.  Here are a couple of cars that maybe qualify for this post.

First from 1991 its the Lionel Tennessee, Alabama, & Georgia (TAG) double door boxcar.

Next its the Lionel #225 C&O Alco from 1960 taking fresh sea food from Phillips Crab House in Baltimore harbor, west to the markets in Ohio.

Finally a "modern" Marx MKT refer from ?? (I don't collect or track modern Marx but I liked this car)

Well there you go folks.  Hope we "scare up" (after all its Halloween) a few more pictures for today

If you're interested in these cars, you'll find other variations of the same car if you look at some additional ones. The Greenberg Guide lists 11 variations of the IC 9200. The 9200 series is full of interesting variations, and a lot of fun to collect and run. These were the "new" Lionel's first run of new 6464 cars, and they were adapting and using some parts from their Postwar parts inventory, settling on new designs, etc. There are a lot of paint variations. The IC 9200 had a number of them. I have three versions of the 9204 green Northern Pacific, each of which is a different shell version, as well as having different shades of green. One has a great deal lighter shade of green than the other two - really sharp. You wouldn't think it was the same car.

Brizeeinup:  Thanks for the input, I agree I have 2 or 4 and really think they are super.  I am trying to cover the full series as the years go on.

Breezinup I forgot to mention, I also like the 9700 series from just a year or so later than the 9200.  I find these cars to be bright colorful well made and relatively inexpensive just plain fun to collect

Hi everyone, my Monday morning just got taken up with an early run to Dallas so I am posting early.  Here is a covered milk car from Tupelo Dairy Farms, in Tupelo, Mississippi.  The cover over the tank, in the real car, provided a space for insulation to keep the milk fresh while traveling in that Mississippi heat in summer.

Well MWM folks here it is Monday again, this time its a cool, crisp, but sunny day here in central Texas I hope you are also enjoying beautiful fall weather.  Today I have a simple participant, the Lionel #9031 Nickel Plate (NY, Chicago, & St. Louis RR) short gondola.  This fellow was in and out of the MPC line and in fact carried over into the Lionel Trains Inc (LTI) line.  He was available from 1973-75, 1979, 1983, and 1984-1991.  He had fixed couplers in 1973 but got operating couplers (like this example) in 1979.  In 1983 he was part of the "Heavy Iron" set but for the rest of the time he was mostly uncatalogued.  He originally came with 3 canisters that are currently missing from this example.  He is a lightweight, with trucks and couplers as well as the gondola body made of plastic.

Here is the #9031 NKP gondola in his only color scheme brown / white letters.

Here he is in a very short freight train behind my PRR "BEEP" switcher.
