once I have found two sounds I like on the more menu how do I move them up to position 1 and2 on the row of soft keys so when I turn on the hand held they are the first two sounds on the row of keys? thanks for any answers

Scroll to the more softkey entry and call up the full list. Move the two entries to the top of the list and they'll appear as the first two softkeys.

Use more to get to the softkey list, use the thumb wheel to highlight the function you want to move, press the S2 Move softkey, use the thumb wheel to position the function where you want it on the list, depress the thumb wheel.
