It was a beautiful and very windy day on Lake Beattadaise today for the first annual San Beattadaise Regatta.  Even though only four boats qualified for the race, a large crowd collected on the dock and boaters took to the water for a closer look at what was expected to be keen competition.  John Berdsford Tipton presided as Master of Ceremonies from his yatch.  The race was won by John Berdsford Tipton Jr. in a walk, leading from beginning to end.  There was only a slight amount of grumbling that Junior's boat was noticeably larger than everything else in the race, giving it an unfair advantage, because as Berdsford Tipton Sr put it, "It is only natural.  Tiptons have always owned the largest boats on the lake, ever since we first built the factory on which the town's entire economy depends."

The boats will go slower, but they are more fun at this speed.

As a project, my Moving-Boats-On-Lake is complete and final.  Most people like the ski boat with skier best but I like the set of sailboats.

Thank you everyone for the kind comments.

PeterA - I had the volume on the microphone turned up to full and the noise you hear is the sound of the "mechanism" powering the boats.  The noise is hardly noticeable in the trainroom but for some reason in this video it is loud.  Running exactly 5 inches under the surface is a loop of O-27 track on which a three-some of BEEPS runs.  They have neodymium magnets mounted to racks built on top of them to pull the boats.

But you have a point, there have been rumors that Nessie has been sighted occasionally on the Lake.  I will try to get a video . . . .

Casey LV - I will be running the water skier or the James Bond Boat most of the time.  I just set up the set of four sailboats to see if I could do it, mostly.

KOOLjock1: I'm thinking about two things I would like to make work - First, sailboats that lean the other way and have the sails shift around when they change direction.  Two, a rowboat where the person in the boat actually seems to be working oars that move.  I have some ideas for both but frankly I am tired of working on boats and am declaring this project done for now.

-- I will return to this someday, though.  I know I can get a person to "row" a roawboat.  I think I can get the sailboats to tack somewhat realistically.

That's awesome.  And you did that how?  With magnets?  I haven't viewed any earlier posts on this, and I'm curious.  I'm going to watch it again.  It was kind of like the sausage race at the ballpark between innings.  I was rooting for the green boat.  It looks like he has the inside track.  I Like It!
