Dear O scalers,

The 2 rail O scale community lost a friend today. Jim Seacrest died in Lincoln, Nebraska at age 78. He was a kind, knowledgeable historian of mid western railroads and a collector of all things related in O scale, and until recent years a familiar figure at the Chicago March meet. Jim was an Army veteran and had worked for the CB&Q in Chicago when he was younger. He had retired to Lincoln from the publishing business to enjoy his trains.

Jim, may your signals be green on that high iron into Heaven.

He was a long term enthusiast of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy. Recall his photo of the tenders saved from the remaining 29 Lines West "Q" steam locomotives in Lincoln, which were retained for MOW, after the locomotives went to scrap. The picture appeared in the March 1962 "Trains".    And, of course, his permanent ad in "Model Railroader" in the O Scale Wanted section. Although 78 is more or less the normal life expectancy of a male in the USA, it seems way too young.

Erik, thank you for the posting.

Never met Jim, but we had mutual friends in Nebraska and they spoke very highly of him.  I've followed his "for sale" and "want to buy" ads in every O scale publication for decades and I don't think he ever missed an issue. He was an avid collector and modeler who possessed a wealth of knowledge and was always happy to share. He will be missed.
