I give up with the computer stuff, unfortunately I'm 80 and don't have a computer literate youngster around any more. So I'm asking for help with the MTH hand held controller. 1) how can I bring the controller back to the factory default, all of my engines dropped down to the inactive list and I thought I could simply "reinstall" them into the controller, (2) now the big question; I have a GG-1 that is in the inactive list, the engine makes sounds and lights but when I scroll the wheel to that engine and then push the wheel the screen says "engine not on track". It is the sole engine on the track. The MTH item number is 20-5518-1 with Proto-Sound 2.0 What's going on? Thanks for your help.

You can reset the remote to factory defaults. This will remove all engines and reset all settings to factory settings.
- MENU
- SYSTEM
- REMOTE SETUP
- RESET REMOTE
Before you do the reset, you might try making the engine active again by making sure it’s on a section of track with a good signal. Maybe where you added the engine originally.
I would ECHO GHD. An locomotive that is listed as In Active can be move back to active I believe just by selecting it with the scroll knob and then depressing the knob to select that locomotive. If you do a Factory Reset it will erase everything you have in the DCS Remote. I just did that to two of mine sas I wanted to upload a cloned remote information into them. Factory Reset erases everything in the remote.
Thank you all for the advice. I read the first response from gunrunnerjohn and reset the remote. Now to follow the advice of GHD and we'll see how that works. I previously attempted to activate the engines by following RJT's advice but it did not work, that's why I thought a reset would correct the problem. I'm going to attempt to install the engines after dinner. I really appreciate your replies and will let you know how the DCS works.
OK, so here's what happened. The handle reset was easy. Next I placed an engine on the track and it was recognized by the handle, then I placed a second engine on the track and again it was recognized by the handle, THEN I placed a third engine on the track, it was recognized by the handle BUT it appears that one of the first two engines was effected when placing the third engine on the track. That engine now fails to respond to the handle commands; it turns on and creeps around at 1mph. I then attempted to reinstall the engine into the handle by placing it on a separate piece of track (4 feet) it made noise but did not respond into the handle. I did not have the TIU connected to the track, only a transformer. Am I going to have an oval test track connected to the TIU to program the engine into the handle? I have 8 of the MTH engines and it seems awkward to have to have a separate track to program them. Any comments are appreciated. At least now I have two engines running thanks to your prior advice.
