MTH G5 problems

In 1999 I bought an MTH G5, which, of course, has PS1--beautiful engine, I love it--but it has a big problem. There it is, running along, everything is fine . . . and all of a sudden, it stops dead. Lights still on, nothing off the track, no short . . . if I do nothing, it usually starts up again in a few seconds. ????????? Any ideas? Any fixes? Any help will be most appreciated!
