My MTH Big Boy (*) had been running and sounding just fine; that is, until this afternoon. All of a sudden the chuffing changed from the familiar deep sound to an almost shriek. It changed back and forth between the deep and the lower volume, higher pitched chuffing several times, and when I finally stopped the engine, it was shrieking. It sounded as though the tender had a tweeter and a woofer, where the latter was cutting in and out. But no, there is only one speaker on the tender.

Any ideas of what may have caused this deterioration in sound, and how to fix it?

Thx

Alex

(*) This was the first engine I bought from Jason, per Jimmy's advise, around the time when Jimmy retired. That was late in 2010. We had just moved and I did not have anything to run the Big Boy on for several months. It had been running fine since then, until just today.

The feature reset was all it took to fix it!

Since the proper sound was cutting in and out, I was concerned that the cause could have been a loose connection or a faulty component. Fortunately, that was not the case.

THANK YOU!
