Is the MTH Premier PS3 electronics one in the same with Rail King PS3 electronics? If not, what are the differences?

Yes. Same thing.

Charlie - Are the motors the same, do you know? I'm assuming they're different.
While not absolutely certain, I believe MTH Premier and Railking Diesels use the same double motor setup. Bigger MTH Steam Engines use bigger motors than their Railking cousins. If there is any cross pollination between the 2 steamer lines, I think it would be in the Railking Imperial line.
The motors could be the same, but the gearing is what you really have to watch out for as they are mostly not swappable due to different wheel size and the gears in the drive train(s).

Yep, already took that into consideration. They are the same model diesel, so I'm hoping the gear boxes are transferable.
Premier 6 wheel trucks pivot differently than RK trucks, in that the RK have blind drivers on the end axle, while Premier has them in the center.
You might look at the extra information on the new MTH Parts Site. Mike cranked out a motor and worm gear reference document that should answer some of these questions.
Yep, what John said,…Mike’s new charts even list what models a particular motor fits,….very useful information,….

This would be for as ES44AC diesel. I wanted to try and save some money and migrate the PS3 and motors from a Rail King to a non powered Premier.
And, just so you can get another good laugh, I want to migrate the motor/truck mount so that it is flush with the bottom of the chassis. You know, like HO scale.
