Excellent!  I'm always in for PA and LA based businesses (I'm from PA and model the PRR and the wife is from LA).  Just ordered the Schmidt's and Borden's reefers.

Fyi...Atlas made a 36' and a 40' A&P reefer.

Hi Greg thanks for the post but I was aware  of this.  But as a practice if I am stringing several cars together prefer to keep them the same manufacture.  First for aesthetics we know that the Atlas cars are more detailed.  So in a string of 19-cars that one Atlas car would stand out from the MTH cars.  But more over sense we al know there is an O-Gauge standard for couplers and trucks (NOT) do not like the mix  in long strings.

Also while on this subject the Bordens Billboard refers is pure fantasy!  First off Else was not created until the 1936's.  And as I can fine not the image of Else in a daisy.  In July of 1934 the ICC made the following ruling, "On and after the effective date of this rule [August 1, 1934] advertisements of shippers or products are prohibited on newly constructed or repainted refrigerator cars."  Along with also effective January 1. 1937 (which was extended to January 1, 1938) NONE of these Billboard refers could/may run on any trackage>

Now I am a big Borden's fan having been raised on Borden's milk derived by a Borden's milkman driving a Divco. One of my favorite cars is this Lionel milk car.

That is a sharp looking car! One of the best parts of this hobby is how it allows us to relate to memories of our youth!

As for the "billboard" laws, as long as the cars were leased or owned and in captive service, the "normal billboard" rules wouldn't apply.  Dubuque Packing, Needham Packing and Pepper Packing cars ran into the 60's.  In my reality Borden's did the same thing. 

As for prototypical accuracy, I used to only buy billboard reefers if I knew they actually existed but I've since stopped and just purchased an item if I think it looks good.  I'm lucky if 1 in 100 people would notice if they see it, and if they didn't and commented I always just comment "ABC Packing" didn't have those in real life, I just liked the look.

I know the Schmidt's car is a fantasy scheme as well just from the fact there never was a Pennsylvania Refrigerator Express.

The 1934 ICC ruling states " (F) Effective January 1, 1937, no refrigerator cars bearing advertisements of any shipper, consignee, or products will be accepted in interchange or handled locally on any railroad."  now in the late 40's early 50's some legal eagles saw a small a loop-hole.  So you could not "say" Swift Hams", "Oscar Mayer Hams" etc. but could "say" "Swift" or "Oscar Mayer" etc.  There is a great 226 page book by Richard H. Hendrickson and Edward S. Kaminski "Billboard Refrigerator Cars" that covers all of this including hundreds of pictures of the old Billboard Refers and dozens of the newer one that slip in under the loop-hole.
