All,

With the success of two proto 3 steam upgrades under my belt, I decided to tackle upgrading an Mth 20-2189-1 premier genesis. Upgrade went smoothly (minus one bulb breaking in the holderšŸ¤¬). However, when I finished hooking up the smoke unit, I would get the elements to work, but no fan. I attached a picture of the cut in the pcb I made as stated in the manual. All wires have been checked and triple checked to be in the correct spot. Fan motor works with DC. I reloaded the diesel smoke flash code from a proto 3 genesis, but no dice. I am at a loss.

are u sure that you cut the board traces completely ! your solder looks blobbed on n not smooth. It' s very import the resister heater elements are no longer  in parallel other wise the resistance will be incorrect. i can not verify your trace cut because u have a metal bracket on top of board! the resister heating element must be in series! That's incorrect, the mod to the smoke unit is to put the two 16 ohm resistors in parallel!  The resistance to the PS/3 board should be 8 ohms.  That matches the PS2/PS3 smoke units.  In any case, since it's not the heater that's the issue, but rather the fan, I don't think that's the issue.

The fan motor works on straight DC. I did try to reload the diesel smoke flash, but got no "morse code" acknowledgement. I did that about 5 times. I also reversed the motor leads, which did nothing. What voltage reading should I get with a multimeter when the probes are placed on those leads? I will report my findings when the engine is in front of me again. Thanks for your help.
