This locomotive has been in service for at least 7 or 8 years and I don't remember ever replacing the smoke unit.  I suppose they don't last forever.  Recently, the output has been very weak even after re-priming with fluid and allowing it to warm up over a reasonable amount of time.  This to me suggests a replacement is in order which looks to be fairly easy to do.   Is this a reasonable assumption?

Rod,

Is this a reasonable assumption?

More likely, you just need to adjust or replace the wicking material or, at worst, the smoke unit motor.

These are reasonably straight-forward and not very difficult, providing that you know your way around a PS2 steamer's innards. However, the very first thing to do is to ensure that the smoke volume its set to maximum volume.

Under DCS, you would use the remote to access: Menu/Control/Smoke Volume and press the soft key for MAX.

Under conventional mode, you would turn the smoke pot on the tender all the way clockwise.
