Trying to make proto sound usage as simple as possible. Is there away to consolidate remotes so that I don't have to keep changing remotes between proto 2 and 3 trains

I have both PS2 and PS3 locos and run them all with the same remote with no issues.

There should be no reason to have separate remotes between proto 2 and proto 3 engines.
I have 3 remotes and have all my engines, both proto 2 and proto 3 defined in all 3 remotes. No problem with any of the remotes running both versions.
Just program the engines you don’t have on the other remote and your done. No need at all to separate proto 2 and proto 3 engines on separate remotes.
As noted above, all MTH remotes can run PS2 or PS3, and all can have them loaded at the same time.
I recommend strongly that you load all your engines into one remote, and then using the DCS loader program clone the second remote. Then all buttons, including softkey buttons, are in the same place, and all loco locations are the same, on both remotes.

DITTO!
Are we sure we are talking about the DCS remote, or maybe the limited remote that comes with starter sets?
I think a lot of the above answers would be quite different if that is the item in question. (and I note that this question is not in the DCS section of the Forum, but in the regular 3 rail O gauge section)
Just a thought.

Please be specific as to what equipment you have and how you're programming the locomotives.
